CONCORD - June 15, 2007 - On June 13, 2007, Freedom Scientific held a low vision technology workshop at the McGreal Sight Center of the New Hampshire Association for the Blind. At this meeting, Dusty Vorhees, Senior Product Manager, unveiled the newest addition to their low vision suite of products - the Onyx. This was the national debut of this product.
The Onyx is a video magnification device which allows the user to magnify both near and distance targets. It is available in a variety of configurations such as the swing arm and the tension arm and has ability to use a variety of output devices - television, DVD player screen, PC /laptop monitor. Among its other unique features are its ability to "remember" application specific settings as the user switches from distance to near, freeze-frame capabilities, and split screen capabilities on the computer. This is managed through the "Viewport" software which will be a part of the MAGic 11.0 screen magnification/screen reader software release mid-summer. It is competitively priced and will be available for public release mid-summer.
Also discussed at this workshop were "What's New in MAGic 11.0", an overview of Topaz - their in-line CCTV, Opal - their portable electronic magnifier, and the low vision capabilities of SARA - the scanning and reading appliance. Mr. Vorhees in conjunction with Bill Kilroy, regional manager demonstrated the integrative abilities of their products and configuring workstation solutions.
