You can get involved with the New Hampshire Association for the Blind by:

  1. Volunteering in your own community or at the McGreal Sight Center in Concord.
  2. Making a Donation.

Our volunteers extend the reach of our staff, as well as touch the lives and advance the independence of our clients in New Hampshire who are blind or visually impaired.

No matter which part of the state you live in, there are meaningful ways to help in your own community or at the McGreal Sight Center in Concord. If you’re looking for gratifying volunteer work that fits your lifestyle – look no further. Many of the opportunities listed below offer a great amount of flexibility based on your schedule.

The Association provides professional on-going training and support, recognition, opportunities to learn more about the field of blindness and visual impairment, and inclusion in Association sponsored events.

In-Home Community Visitors

Volunteers are matched one-to-one with a client within their community to provide in-home practical support with tasks such as reading mail, letter writing, companionship, and escorting a client on walks in their community.

Volunteer Drivers

§ Community Drivers
Drive your own vehicle and accompany a client to appointments, shopping, errands and recreational activities.

§ Program Support Drivers
Provide transportation to clients attending support, educational and training programs that help promote independent living.

Clerical Assistant

Provide administrative support to Association staff. Projects include data entry, telephone and internet research, and special projects.

Recording Studio Volunteer

Reading and editing a variety of materials in our state-of-the-art studio at the McGreal Sight Center; provide technical assistance preparing written materials in alternate formats for our clients who are blind or visually impaired. Training provided.

Special Events Volunteer

Provide assistance with special events such as the Annual Blind Awareness Walk, Annual Spooky Silent Auction, and other Association sponsored events.

Educational Program Assistant

Welcome and assist clients attending educational programs at the McGreal Sight Center in Concord.

Public Education Assistant

Assist Association staff at senior health fairs, conferences and workshops held statewide.

Anne Aubertin, Volunteer Administrator

On April 7, 2008 Anne Aubertin arrived at the New Hampshire Association for the Blind to serve as our Volunteer Administrator. Anne replaced Lynne Saltonstall who retired this past spring.

For over two years, Anne worked as an Americorps VISTA volunteer. VISTA, a federally funded program, stands for Volunteer In Service To America. VISTA volunteers work in communities throughout the country in programs that serve low-income individuals and families.
